Default MOTs

So my dad just pointed out to me that a vehicle should be MOT'd after exactly 3 years. Hmmm, I'd have sworn it was 4 years, especially as the website didn't ask for MOT details when I renewed the tax disc at the end of the third year... Except then I checked the DVLA website and it said three. Ooops! Bad Fizzy. Better get that sorted on both bikes tomorrow then hadn't I?!

Anyhoo it got me thinking, who manages to remember to do an MOT after three years? I mean I don't even know how old I am let alone my bikes, and I've never had a vehicle from even vaguely new before.

So have you always been on top of MOTs or did you only remember to get one when you had to produce an MOT certificate when renewing your tax disc?

And what are the legal implications (e.g for insurance) if you don't have an up to date MOT?

Most of the time I only remember the MOT when I go to buy tax and find out it's expired. Not this time though, this time I actually MOTd it on the first possible day, how good am I

I purposely set my MOT 1 month after my tax is due, by getting another mot even if it's not needed, this enables me to always get my tax online and also serves to remind me the MOT is coming up, works for me.

Cheers Mark.

Perfectly easy not to require an MOT for 3rd tax disc, if the bike is first registered mid month. Tax is always back dated, therefore the scenario could be tax due end September. MOT due 10th October. This would result in no MOT being required for 3rd tax disc.

MOT, I used to do them about 1 month after my tax, so when the reminder came in I'd groan at the fact that it's MOT time next month
