Question How to tell if my Curvy is restricted?

Hi All
I recently changed my carbs for another set whilst I looked at the old set to see what was wrong with them. The new set give a very notable power increase. Although the new set have a DJ kit and velocity stacks i was surprised at hwo notable it was. So I wondered if perhaps my old carbs were restricted? I have no idea how they restrict a curvy but sure I've read somewhere its a carb kit? How can I tell if mine have a restrictor kit in?
Many thanks

by "notable power increase" does it feel like about double, or just a little bit nicer at some spots?

That's the sort of difference you'll be talking about. If your bike previously struggled to break the ton, then it may have been restricted, but I'd be surprised if you'd not noticed. 33BHp Vs ~ 68BHp shouldn't leave you in much doubt if it's suddenly been altered.

How to tell if your SV is restricted - rev the poo out of it and still only just manage to break the ton....! (Not that I have tried of course)

There are three main ways of restricting the curvy.

  1. Throttle stop. Check for anything stopping the throttle opening fully.
  2. Restriction washers under the carbs. Pretty obvious when you have the carbs off. They look this this.
  3. Modified diaphragm slides. OEM method of restriction. Replaces stock slides with new ones with holes to prevent them opening fully. See here.

Well it felt flat as a witches tit and had zero chance of wheelieing off the throttle and just seemed "short of breath". Even though I'd just got onto it from a scooter it still didn't feel powerful. But I wouldn't say the new carbs have give it double the power or maybe they have? TBH I've only realy been commuting in London traffic. It did wheelie off teh throttle the other day though.

I don't know what curvy's feel like, but if I crack the throttle open(really harshly) anywhere above 20mph, there should be no chance of lifting the front. This is just using the throttle, no slipping the clutch.

Or just cane the bike, if it used to struggle after 90 and basically died at 100, it was restricted, if it now easily reaches 100+ with no problems, it was restricted.

In other words, you really should be able to tell, maybe you just had a bad set of carbs, or the new carbs are better and the mods they have are making a noticeable difference.
