Are the early 1999 models the main culprit for the failures? I know about upgradeing to Honda ones etc. Just may give more options fitting a late pointy one?

Curvys seem more prone than Pointys, that may just be because they're older of course. There are plenty of eminently suitable units, from many different bikes, the desire only to go with a unit fitted to a Honda puzzles me.

Yes. Specific connector blocks/terminals may be different though. But it would certainly work.

The Honda ones are the easiest to fit because they have leads out of them. I fitted a CBR600 to a curvy without having to alter the plugs. In the States they sell custom connectors which make it a lot easier to fit Yamaha ones.

I found that my battery was going flat when i had the headlights on, just took bike to garage to check and they confirmed that rectifier / regulator was faulty. Only putting 12V into the battery when headlights where on. Luckily bikes under warranty so their replacing free =]
Does seem to be a common problem with the curvys from when i've read! Quite an easy fix though i'm told. |
