hello all!
2008 SV650SF. 5500 miles. Stock exhaust and air filter. TPS adjustment done to ~1500RPMs. Fresh gas. Whenever I rev the engine in neutral its impossible to rev it steady between 3k and 5krpm. When i get to 3k and give it a bit more gas...it stays at 3k...and then it shoots up to past 6K. If I get it down to a little below 5K....it just drops down to 3k after a second or two. Also, when its hovering at 3k....it sort of goes back and forth between 3250 and 3500RPM. Just back and forth...back and forth....at a rate of once a second. it's rather annoying, and its making for a jerky ride around town. I'll be checking the resistances and voltages of the TPS and the STPS in a few days. They seem like the most likely culprits. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? |

You dont ride around in neutral surely?. Holding it at a set RPM in neutral isnt easy on any bike due to the way the ECU is setup.
If you riding around at 3k then drop it down a gear and use more of the revs Suzuki gave you. Throttle bodies at 3k will be wondering whether you want them open or not, your riding on the edge of them starting to open and work properly hence the jerky ride. Its the same if you have a vtec car, just rest your foot on the accelerator slightly at low rpm and it will surge. Its the same thing. Try riding around at a higher rpm with the throttle open. |

It might be a nice torquey engine, but it's not smooth. Power pulses through the gearbox and final drive at those revs are just going to cause premature wear, stretch your chain and hook your sprockets. Drop another 500 rpm or so and you'll actually feel the chain lashing up and down. Whether you have a problem with the bike or not, you need to drop a gear, or possibly two! Sorry, I guess my post wasn't clear. This was all done at neutral. Go to your SV, stick it in neutral, start it up and try to maintain a steady throttle at 4K. Yours should be able to do it, my friend's can. Mine cant. That's a problem.
The problem manifests itself when riding below 5K RPM, resulting in a jerky ride. There are speed limits after all, so I cant ride at 5K+ at second gear on residential roads, and I don't want to drop down into first and **** off the neighbors with a loud engine. |

riding at 3k is jerky even on the sv, bikes are not cars hence the 10,200 rev limiter on your sv, you can set one up to be smoother at low rpm but its better to ride at 5-8k i commute at 2-6am and have no complains about the noise so far.
