Default Alarm removed - now non runner.

Hi everyone, bought my SV last August(2003 650 k3, pointy). It had a datatool alarm fitted which was slightly tempramental so I decided to remove it and buy a good disc lock. I've never been too confident with wiring so I asked a mate to come round and do the removal.
I'd done a search and all the replies would suggest it was an easy job, however after removing the alarm and re-soldering the wires back together a problem arose. When the ignition is switched on the fuse for the fuel system blows immediately, the rev counter goes up to around 8000 rpm and then returns to zero and obviously the bike won't start.
We've checked the wiring according to the Haynes manual and there seems to be some differences even though it is a UK bike.
Anyone had any similar problems or any ideas as what to try next?

When you reconnected the bike wires you have earthed out the starter relay by the sounds of it. Undo all the soldered joints and test with a multimeter check between the starter button and starter relay retracing any cut wires.

so the only two wires you could have messed up were messed up
for pointies ususaly the fuel pump feed is cut, note some people do it at the wrong place using the main feed from the main relay (duh, as the alarm relay power rating is lower than the wire that is cut), the other two are either the starter or ECU, go over and check the wiring has been done correctly.
Ive got a pointy loom in a box which i removed an alarm from and should all be good to go but i think its a 2006+ loom as it had a Datatool S4 wired in.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll be having another go this weekend.
In the meantime, does anyone else have any tips, ideas or solutions that could be tried.
