hmm well as some may know i have a broken exhaust stud, so today my stud extractor turned up its a clamp type well........ it dosn't work so now im fukd
hear is the dilemma if i drop the head then i can take the cylinder head to collage and try and vice grip the stud and turn the cylinder or get a nut welded on and see if i can get it out like that. BUT and its a bit BUT if i do that then i waste a head gasket, i have pistons ready to go in but no funds to hone the cylinders so if i put the bike back together then i have to buy a new gasket and still pay for the hone :/ what do you think would be the best route to take, back together or do the hone as and when i can and save wasting a gasket |

You could probably get away with one nut on the exhaust clamp for a wee while. It's not strictly BASAT but I've got away with worse. Someone may have tales of why this is a bad idea however.
What's the problem with the stud extractor? The traditional way to find out it doesn't work is to shear the bolt off inside the head. ![]() You developing a gentle touch? ![]() |

I would do the job properly, first time.
Even if it means a delay in getting it finished. You'll kick yourself if you dont, especially if you end up having to do it twice anyway. |

Got £25? Get thee to Halfrauds and get a set of these. They got the manky studs out of the CBR400 no bother

Can you not get some molegrips onto it?
I managed to get a broken stud out doing it that way, plus heat and lots of penetrating fluid

can you not get a nut over the remaining stud and weld them together, then remove by using the nut as purchase?
