Hi all. I apologise if this has been covered before...
Has anybody got any suggestions for a tool to adjust the carbs on a curvy without having to remove the airbox? I just have to take mine off totally every time, which obviously makes the whole process more of a faff. D |

Do you mean when balancing the carbs?
If yes, then a piece of hose attached to the front carb vacuum take off, and run to somewhere accessible means you don't need to faff about fitting the gauge directly to the carb when balancing. Blank off the hose a suitable plug - a tight fitting bolt or screw. Or do you mean something else?

Ack, sorry, I'm an idiot. I was specifically thinking of getting to the adjustment screw without having to remove the airbox.
I already read about the piece of hose on the front take off idea on this very forum. Best suggestion I've ever had! I made the change the first time I ever balanced my carbs and I'm very glad I'll never, ever, ever have to get to that bloody take-off point again. D |

You can just take off the little tank thing on the side of the airbox that covers the carb balance adjuster. The screws holding it on are a sod to get to but you do then have access.

Good morning all.
Alternatively, stop the engine, hold the throttle wide open, & give the screw a tweak with a pair of fine nosed pliers. It takes a little practise, but one can usually get the carbs spot on within 2 or 3 goes. Like many maintenance tasks on many bikes, one curses the designers who don't make sevice items readily accessible! Cheers. |

this is one of my tools i use.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOTORCYCLE-C...505458&vxp=mtr you could have just googled this. P.s unless you wanna do a job the right way dont do it at all.. MAKE LIFE EASY remove the airbox adjust as you need run bike with out the airbox on till you get it close fit airbox run again. if your trying to balance the carbs i would advise to fit a tube about 10in long on the front carb then use the block of cap on the end of it, replace the airbox then trim the tube so there is only a small bit sticking out where its easy to get on to. same for the rear then when not in use to block them off. will need a T piece for the rear carb. Plz Do things right 1st time and dont bodge stuff if your to lazy to remove the airbox clearly its not a job you want to do. |

Was just going to ask if you meant for balancing the carbs or for adjusting the fuelling?

Preston: Thank you very much for the tool link. For the record I have previously done the whole job properly, including the hose on the take off point. Is there a mechanical reason why the airbox should be off when balancing? If not I don't see any reason not to seek to make the job easier. Avoiding unecessary steps is efficient, not lazy, surely? |

I'm with you, I would think best with airbox on, that's how the engine will be running normally, I've just never been able to do it with the air box on.
: )
