It is running lean, turn the choke off once the engine is running.

how hot do you think exhaust gases are? what happens with choke off at 3000 revs for 3 minutes? You should see the glow on a 675 for 1 minute!
quite normal I would venture.............

Couple of years ago I commissioned a new generator at work. IIRC it is a 12 litre V6 diesel unit. Commissioning involves running it flat out for a number of hours, including running it at 110% for an hour. Switch the lights off in the room and watch the room light up with the glow from the turbo!

no need to have choke on for that long and that high. max should be just over 2k revs until you jump on and ride it. Then only have a touch of choke on for another minute, then no choke at all.

Witnessed it recently with a Perkins 2500 genset lights on the the turbo and primary exhaust was glowing

Going back to the OP your motors running lean get it sorted before it melts something

Why leave it on choke for 3 minutes?
