Default What caliper repair kit to get?

Hi guys and girls,

I need to rebuild my front and rear calipers, is there a simple kit I can get or are they over priced? Ive searched but there are so many posts since I last was active I just cannot find the details I need.

I found this kit, so can I build one myself for cheeper?

Thanks

I wouldn't bother getting a kit like in your link, just some red rubber grease & buy new seals if you need them. You may well get away with reusing the old ones - I did on my front calipers. If you cope without your bike for the delivery time of the seals then only order them if you need them otherwise maybe order them so they can go straight on. I'd be quite surprised if you needed to replace the top right two rubber bits from your link or the bleed nipple or the bleed nipple screw.

For the sake of a couple of quid I will get new seals to be on the safe side. The bikes been stood for a year now, covered but outside, so its for peace of mind as well

I havent done the brakes before so will probably post up some pics when I start having a play!

I cant ride my bike at the moment anyway so Im not in a rush, will be looking to get back on it in the summer.

Thanks

Here's a complete set for the front calipers £40

http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/suzuki/s...liper_-_front/

They do the rear seals as well

I got my seals from Wemoto, I'm sure they worked out about £5 per piston so £10 per caliper. HTH

99% of time you can reuse without issue.

Ok, Ive taken the calipers apart today. The dust seals look ok, although they are all twisted and out of shape. I will replace these just to be on the safe side, I have a feeling that they havent been replaced before and the bike has been sat for a full year now.

The seals that are inside the pistons look in perfect condition. Should I remove these and lube with RRG before refitting?

The seals on the rear caliper are all in fine condition so I will reuse them.

The pots themselves are a bit rusty, I havent cleaned them yet so I dont know if they are pitted or if it is just surface rust. Wire wool and autosol should do the job?

A few of the rubber bits on the outside of the caliper that look like springs (I have no idea of the technical term) have perished and need to be replaced. A few of the others look tired although still ok, is it worth replacing them all?

Is there anything else I should be doing at this stage?

Thanks

Also, what do I clean the calipers with to get off the brake fluid? I have brake cleaner, but I think thats too strong for first cleans, will WD40 do the job?

Thanks

Yes, RRG

Think wire wool & autosol would be too harsh, I think that one of the green scouring pad would be a bit more sympathetic, but I maybe wrong.
