As the title suggests, last night Iggle and Piggle were very pleased with themselves as they brought me this, along with a limbless torso of another chick. Then this morning they brouhgt an indential dead chick in. I'm not sure if they have found these on the ground, raided one nest several times or are on a general killing spree but can anyone tell me what sort of birds these are?
I have shouted at both of them but they seem to think that these little gifts are the cat equivalent of a yummy Cadbury's Creme Egg and show me how much they love me!

My cats do it all the time.
You're lucky it's in one piece. My little darlings like to leave their gifts scattered over an off white carpet... |

That was one of the whole ones. And there was plenty of blood from the one with no limbs. I got Mr LPH to clear it up as he was the one who forgot to feed them before he went out to the pub.

euugh! green feathers? summat exotic or starling chick?
Cats are pest control, mainly used for killing off baby rats, I do praise ours when it does so, but it gets a kick up the bum when it brings anything of value to our planet ![]()

This is why I have copious amounts of barbed wire all over the bird boxes in my garden. Last year both blue tit families were about to fledge when their boxes were raided by a cat I've never seen before or since. Watching the blue and yellow blurs whizing in and out with food for a few weeks was wonderful - picking up the remnants from the floor was not.

I feed the birds and normally the cats leave well alone which is why I wonder if this one nest was low down or easily accessible. I would have thought that they were too big and cumbersome to sneak up on a nest without breaking the whole tree in the process. When they jump on the fence the whole thing wobbles and I'm worried it sets off a small tsunami somehwere in East Anglia.
This photo is of an 18" wide flowerpot containing a tree and he can hardly fit in it! ![]()

My old cat once tried to catch a squirrel, it stalked it for a bit, I banged on the window & the squirrel looked over as if to say 'I know'. Then when it got about a meter away the squirrel jumped up & ran a circle around the bemused cat who then ran as fast as she could back into the house. I ****ed myself laughing
Have you thought of a collar with a bell? Won't stop it getting chicks but it'll give other birds a bit of a warning |
