If you were there you may remember the range road you rode up down by Lulworth cove. The one with the targets and shot up tanks on either side. Well this is where i was this weekend and this is why it is often closed to the public.
http://www.bfbs.com/news/uk/ta-unit-...ots-58286.html What a weekend, being female i was not a crewman but was the medic on duty and did get to have a little play in the tanks. Bikes seem a bit tame in comparison. ![]() |

we were up in the big carpark (one we stopped at on AR) ontop of grange hill back in march and they had it all shut off for fire-ring. Sounded like AA fire not cannon.
do they fire blanks now? as the targets on the hill weren't blown up |

Wow, I did not know that BFBS was still going!
I grew up around tanks because my Dad was in RTR and we spent a fair bit of time in Bovington, which meant weekend passes for the RAC tank Museum. To this day I love tanks, especially the sound of a Chieftain MBT on full chat, charging past. That engine noise can make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end because it is just so glorious. Hope that you had a lot of fun playing.

No all live rounds, both 7.62 and 120mm, i have some great photos of rounds landing on target. Maybe the day you were there the gunners were particularly bad shots. We did some great night shooting as well, watching the tracer is an awesome sight.

H+S is to thank for the closures, i think the noise was one issue. They didn't want people complaining of damaged hearing after being up there watching, they did have signs for a while saying to wear ear defence or stay in your car with the windows shut. And also i think the ricochet (sp) from some of the hard targets were getting a bit wild. Shame really cos people love to watch that sort of thing.
