I have managed to muller the plug (item 20 on here) as it was well & truely lodged in place on the generator cover so I can't turn the engine to do the valve clearances. I know the viewing window to see what position the engines in is built into the generator case too but is it possible to do the clearances by taking the whole generator cover off?
Since they only need doing every 15k then although it's a faff it'll save having to replace it. I've got a naked K2 if it makes a difference |

Put it in top gear and sue the back wheel to turn the engine.

You should be able to turn it with the plugs in I think.

take plugs out, put bike into second gear, take sprocket cover off and use the sprocket nut to turn engine.

Tip for removing that plug (provided you're buying a replacement).
Get your self an angle grinder disc spanner. Should look something like this: ![]() Drill 2 holes of suitable size and spacing to be able to get the spanner fitting well to your cover cap then tap the other end of the spanner with a hammer - will be slightly easier with the engine case warm through either running it or heating it manually. |

Thanks chaps - I did think of that the other day then promptly forgot. Saves taking the cover off

The plug is only light alloy/plastic anyway from what I remember. I snapped the thread off one on a K5 quite easily by overtightening it, so be careful when you do fit a replacement.

Yes indeed.
The good thing about doing jobs and fecking them up, is that the next time you come to do them, you know what can go wrong and therefore (usually) avoid them! |
