I used to think wrestling was real when I was a kid. Then as I grew up I figured out it was fake. Now I'm not so sure. This stuff is just far too realistic to be fake, surely?!?!

Its definitely scripted and the outcome of matches is pretty much always predetermined before the bell rings. Some of the knocks and bumps they take are definitely not fake though. Sure, some moves are made to look like they do tons of damage, but actually they do hardly any when they are done "right". Take a piledriver for instance. It should really break your neck. Ask anyone who has ever played this game about their injuries though and they are all very real indeed.

Yes! Got two mates that wrestle for vanguard wrestling in Chicago, all moves are called (they tell each other what they are about to do) to avoid serious injury, also matches are rehearsed to ensure calling moves in the ring can be avoided as much as possible, as fans hearing it can somewhat spoil the atmosphere!
Atlas J Horn and Ivan Manson are the tubby gheyers in question! http://www.vwaawrestling.com/vwaahardcorekingship.htm That vid is atrocious! Where the hell did you find that? Last edited by Thunderace; 22-02-13 at 04:07 PM. |

OK, I know the video is American interpretation of wresting.
But locally a wrestler in the 70s (Vic Faulkner) used to own a pub The Railway in Euxton. dur to its location it was a popular drop in point for wrestlers heading to/from Blackpool so we would see the likes of Haystacks, Big Daddy etc. dropping in. One of the lads told vic it was all scripted and they couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag. I was impressed by his strength as he lifted the lad up the wall by his throat with just his right arm. But as for scripted? Hmmm. Vics wife Jen was a professional dancer/choreographer. I wonder

I remember watching American wrestling on tv as a kid. Can't remember the well known 'actor wrestler' at the time......but when he jumped off the corner rope and his leg snapped in half ... That was not fake!!
Edit : Sid Vicious!

Its all fake but thats not to say it's not all very painful and they do get very very hurt.
Sometimes they will wrestle with broken limbs dislocated joints and anything up to and inculding concussion. Chris Benoit was a famous wwf wrestler till he went mental and killed his wife and family, the coroner found so much damage in the brain he said it was a wonder the guy was able to function and many other wrestlers have said that they don't remember large portions of matches because they really do get hit on the head with those metal chairs and things. Thats not a fake hit, they just ham it up a bit. |

Chris Benoit had so much pinning his neck together too, I'm surprised he could get in the ring.
I do like a good Tables, ladders and chairs match though ![]()
