Default Rear brake pad retainer

I removed my rear caliper to get some copper grease, one of the pins was stuck. When i did get it free the retaining clip flew off an i cannot find it as the light was poor.

Questions:
1: is it a problem not to have them in
2: can i get new ones?

Both my rods which the pins go into are jammed solid. I'm hoping to get powercoated around it. Pads have only worn 33% in four years so will only need to get the drill out in 8 year time.

Anyway, the pin stops the rods falling out. This could happen as the pads slide on the rod and could theoretically move out. The solution is very simple. Grab a paperclip, snip it and use that instead.

Not that retaining clip, the one that goes over the pads to stop them vibrating.

well 15amp cable has solid core cables about 1-1.5mm thick.

bend it into shape of old one and fit it.

Andrew,

If your retainer pins are stuck in, the best way to get them out(as i found after 3 hours of hair pulling) is to loosen the 4 main bolts which holds the 2 sides of the caliper together and prise them apart. By doing this you will be able to slide the side over the pins leaving 2 pins sticking out of the seized side. Then just use your pliers or summit to get them out.
