Default crumbly speedo drive

I changed my tyres at the weekend and whilst refitting the front wheel i noticed that the speedo drive was a little mangled, so i removed it from the sensor and it just crumbled in my hand. i went to my local suzi dealer and he tells me its £15!! its only a plastic sleeve! is this a common prob? or has the wheel been yeehaaaw'd in there at some point?
