Default How secure should the air box / air filter housing be ?

ive just lifted my tank on my sv650s 1999 and the air box seems to be just resting on the two carb intakes it looks like a rubber seal goes over these on the air box. When i push the airbox down onto the carbs it simply just lifts / pops up from them again. I have lowered the tank and have noticed one of the sir box seals is not sitting 100% flush to the carb when the bike revs you can hear alot of induction from this, Will this cause the bike to run bad?

Has any one any tips regards lining them up and should they be a tight fit? As mine seem just to rest on top

thanks

Can you lift the airbox clear of the the carbs using minimal force? If so, then you need to undo the two screws that clamp the band togenter, then press the airbox down and tighten the screws. Wiggling the airbox helps it seat over the carb tops.

when the tank is down, it will hold the air box down.

Its not so critical as a 2 stroke where they need a perfect seal.

Dont panic

Other than sucking in air directly to the carbs, thus causing the boke to run bad and maybe damage the carbs in extreme cases.

There are two rubber rings on the carb inlets with a lip that should go through each corresponding hole in the airbox. Smear a little engine oil or WD40 or vaseline / KY jelly round the ring (oo'er) and push the airbox down onto each ring. Do one at a time. The lip on the ring should go through the air box hole and clip over said hole. Just get a finger nail and the lip if it isn't quite home.

Did you want a sensible answer or just want to hear me talk dirrrrty????
