My last SV got totalled before I derestricted it and the exhaust wasn't ever that hot. Now I've got another bike and the exhaust system seems to run a lot hotter and get hotter a lot faster.
Is this just normal on an unrestricted SV, or could the K&N filter be causing it to run lean and therefore hotter? Anything else I should be looking for to confirm it's running lean? |

Sounds like its running rich or lean... Sounds like you could use a fuel re-map to me

Thought so - I could just stuff the old filter back in, but before I do that, anyone know any good places where I could get it sorted?
By fuel map are we talking a power commander, or can I just go to a dyno shop and have them sort it out? And what sort of damage could I do to the bike by just having the K&N installed and it running rich or lean? Is it something I should sort right away, or just make sure I get it sorted in the next few weeks? |

1. you can get it yoshi boxed at your local dyno centre for around £80, this remaps your ecu so if you can anything else in the future like exhausts etc.. you will need another yoshi box @ £80 2. you can get power commander which does all the work for you whithout remapping you ecu & any further mods you add the power commander will do all the work with out any further costs. however a power commander retails at near £280 3. you dont have to worry to much about getting it done striaght away the next couple of weeks will be fine. |

I find mine gets very hot and quite fast too, I've burnt myself several times while trying to put a chain through the rear wheel.
If you're worried about your bike then best to get a dyno run done to check it's not running lean. If it is then I think a Teka box is the best way to get it remapped and seems to make more adjustments to the ECU than the Yoshi box, going on what Mike1234 and SV650Racer have said. A Power Commander, while nice to have, is not needed on a Suzuki because of these options, although some would say if you can get one cheap enough then it's not so bad as it gives plenty of adjustments, it's easy to make adjustments, it's easy to remove when needed and also you can sell it on if you want to so you can get back some of your money. |

I must be missing something, the pipe on my totally standard bendy took the skin off my hands a few times before i got rid of it. I though all exhausts got very warm...

Remember, your exhaust pipe is connected to a box full of explosions, it gets hot

the only reason why u would have a fairly cool exhaust would be if it was a titunium endcan & even then it would only cool after a about 10mins the rest of the pipe work would still be hot for ages.

Took her on a 60 mile blast today, including going faster than I've ever been before. Coolant reading never went above 87 degrees, so I'm guessing I'm just paranoid... if there was loads of excess heat I'd be getting much higher readings, no?
