Default dented tank

So, something solid and heavy's been dropped onto my bike, and the petrol tank is dented. Does anyone know of somewhere in the South East where I can get the dent pushed back out again? The paint isn't damaged so I'm hoping to avoid a complete respray.
Thanks in advance,
Ali

Morrisons Supermarket.

Seriously though, a few of the guys on here have (used and) described how to remedy this using FROZEN PEAS & HOT WATER. I'm sure someone will go into detail. It should save you a few quid.

Very sorry to hear this Alison... did it happen while you were at work? Was it in your work car park? How big is the dent?

There are several ways to deal with this, but all require skill, care, and attention:

1) remove the paint in the dent, and weld on a special stalk. The stalk is then used to pull the dent out, before being cut off, and finished to a smooth surface.

2) remove the paint, fill the dent, sand, prime, paint, polish. Probably the easiest solution.

3) fill the tank with air, and the pressure can be used to push the dent out. Not sure how reliable this is, and I've heard mention that you're more likely to split the tank.

Otherwise, you could always keep your eye out for a new tank... but they're like £400+ from the robbers at Suzuki. Or, you could just live with it

Right.... not heard of this myself, and it sounds a bit far fetched. My search didn't return anything remotely useful.

No mention of it actually working though

If it were me (and I also have a dented tank), I'd hide it with filler, and paint; or have it pulled out.

As it happens, I lived with it for a year or more, but have a tank that's now ready for painting

Of course, that doesn't help Alison... however, I don't think there's an easy solution to your problem

Might be easier, and probably cheaper, to buy another tank.

What model bike do you have and what colour is it?

I don't really wanna buy another tank, I think that'll be too expensive. I'll probably just live with it until my knees have rubbed a bit more of the paint away then I can get the dent filled and the tank repainted, like Billy suggested. The bike wasn't at work - it was 'safely' tucked away in the garage! We have a tube light in there that runs off a heavy battery pack - you plug it into the mains overnight to charge, then it last for about a month. My dad tried to take it down to charge it, but it just slipped out of his grasp and smacked down onto the tank. The dent's about an inch accross, and not that deep, so I;ll probably just put up with it. Thanks for the suggestions though! Oh, and Mike - it's a black 650s k4.
