IT techies - help needed

I have a partitioned USB Stick, 2 partitions, and when I adjusted the size of the partitions somehow the entire disk was formatted.

I had a lot of important data on it that wasn't backed up, I know how stupid that is and believe me I will never forget again, but now the worst has happened can anyone recommend a program that will allow me to recover some, if not all, of the data, or is it best to send it off to specialists to recover the data?

I'll try have a look when I get home... though normally you have to pay a few bob for them. I just did a search on the tinternet. Though you can recover formated data, it might well be damaged. Plus I'm not sure how well it works on memory media...

I guess you'd be better off by handing it to someone who knows their way around it. Repartitioning shouldn't lead to a low level format, so it might be possible to recover close to everything in there, assuming you haven't done anything else to it. Try to have one of our resident geeks to take a look at it for you, I know at least one program that might pull the trick and has already saved my *ss a few times before.

What's the program called that you've used?

The only thing I've done to the stick so far is try and use a program to recover it, and the program crashed , nothing else done to it after that.

Most recovers software works on the assumption that:
1) If it's deleted, just the File Allocation Table (FAT) at the start of the disk is wiped and the acutal data is still there, or
2) The physcal media stil has enough magnetic "memory" from the previous settings to recover.

Really not sure how well recovering data on a memory stick will go therefore, but as long as nothing more has been written to the stick you may be fine.

Try searching google for "undelete" or "Data recovery" and see what are offered?

I've tried a few programs, but so far I'm not getting anything, just a few crashed programs. , including Stellar Phoenix.

The files that I need are mainly word documents and powerpoint presentations so the program should be able to recover these really and I'm not too worried about anything else at the moment.

After trying loads of software and getting nothing, literally unable to recover even one file , I've decided to let a professional deal with it. So far I've been quted £180 though for doing this, with a 'no recovery no fee' guarantee.

So does anyone have any recommendations for companies to use?

That sounds pretty reasonable for getting your data back and for the lesson on implementing a backup policy.
