On the news they are talking about when Tony Blair stands down and hands the power to Gordon Brown.
Why Gordon? Isn't John Prescott the deputy PM? ![]() If Blair was other wised indisposed then 2 jags steps in, so why is the Chancellor going to become PM? Is it because he's higher or that his party has eleceted him to take over. ![]() If thats the case why on earth is 2 jags still deputy???? ![]() ![]() Nobody could answer me this yesterday. |

I though it was an internal party thing. Labour are the elected party and they can do a fair bit of shuffling around within their(OUR) government.
Chancellor is a good gig, long as the economy isn't in dire straits no crap would stick to him, until he gets found out having choke sex with a rent boy I suppose. |

Ostensibly, "Two shags" is the second in command and fills the job of deputy PM. However, on the resignation of the party leader, the idea is that the party hold an election for the new leader and therefore the new PM. Fat **** prescott doesn't stand a chance as the groundswell of support is behind slack jawed Brown.
My own view is that Brown is a bit of a freeloader and has been rather lucky with the economy so far. His book balancing has been a bit wayward for example as he managed to get us from no defcit (a good thing) into a huge hole last year. Thankfully, the bust hasn't followed the boom - yet. Edit for spelling |

It's 'cos Prescott is perceived within the Labour Party as representing rank and file members and the trade unions.
Working class lad from Hull etc. Ex shop steward Whereas the PM and Chancellor are grammar school etc. |
