Default What happened to the 750s?

Why is it that only Suzuki is producing a 750 engined sportsbike? Where have all the rival manufacturers put their 750 machines? Is it simply a change in some racing regulations that have seen the 750 sized bikes fall out of favour or is it insurance that has stymied their popularity?
Purely from a kerb based perspective the 750 seems like the near optimum size in terms of weight, pulling power and top-end go go action. I think if any sporting type of bike were to tempt me from the SV it'd be the GSX-R750, it seems to offer just enough of the "too-much-of-everything" without being utterly talent/fear overwhelming like the litre bikes appear to be.

Ducati 748 or 749. Wouldn't dream of trying to say anything about them.

I love my 750 - even if it is basically a sleeved down ZX9-R motor, but its got plenty of low down grunt and a more than fast enough top end - plus as you say, its the connoisseurs choice!

You're right, 750's are no longer raced so most manufacturers dropped them apart from Suzuki (I think they like owe something to the 750 as they wouldn't be a big company without it 20 years ago or something )

Suzuki keep making the GSXR-750 because people keep buying them. Supply and demand me old mucka

IIRC the K6 750 is one of this years top selling bikes.

Loads of rave reviews in about the GSXR-750 for the past 2 years and everyone wants one now (I do), but were they as popular when 750's were being dropped by other manufacturers several years back? I really can't remember.

I believe you're right. It's definitely Suzuki's best seller this year.

Law - probably not I bet that when the stopped being raced in WSB / BSB etc the sales of 750 dropped like a stone.

Ask yourself this question, why do you want one ? Do you want one because like me a in that in your thoughts a GSXR should be a 750 or an 1100 if you are being proper old school or are you being swayed towards one because its been hyped by the media as this years big thing.

I'm not having a go, if you get one you wont be disappointed, I know I'm not. I'm just interested in why you want one.

Before you ask I've always really wanted one, it came down to the fact could I afford to buy one. I got mine for the price of a K6 600 as I got a good deal on it.
