Hello
![]() I'm fine n' dandy Mr Ed! My hard-drive failed in my computer and what with buying a bike, doing DAS having to scrape time and money together to fix and re-install everything on my computer.... Well, enough said really. ![]() Was just reading all the posts i'd not read and came across this one. I feel a bit flattered, I almost feel famous, like Little Jimmy Crankie or Jim Bowen; but not like Jesus or Bob Marley because they're way too famous! Yeah, I did my DAS and test a few weeks back and failed for the following reasons: 1/ Foot was rested on rear brake lever so brake light was on (I did that 3 times) 2/ broke the speed limit by about 5-10 mph in the process of overtaking a van (was concentrating too much on 'making progress' and forgot about the speed limit) 3/ Not acknowleging (sp?) a set of traffic lights as they had been on green for sometime. 4/ And one minor for following distance The brake light thing was a bit ironic as I had asked my instructor 2 days before the test if she'd ever seen me doing it, and I hadn't (as I know you can fail for it). It turned out after I failed that the one of the mechanics at the training place had adjusted the rear brake lever on the morning of my test. Would of been nice if he'd told me he'd changed the set-up of the bike before my test though. So either it was my riding position being different or the change in the set-up of the bike that caused it. During my DAS I rode about 5 different makes of bike, never really getting used to any of them. I had only rode a 500cc bike for about 8hrs throughout the whole of my DAS training!! To be honest I don't really think I did that bad for a fail considering I've never done a test before and the only time I had ridden a bike in the last 15 years was during my 5 half-day tuition. Got back to the test centre feeling confident, instructor started asking me about taking passengers etc and i'm thinking "Oh my god, I think I've passed"...... Well what a kick in the teeth that was ![]() I made all my mistakes after completing the U-turn returning to base, must of relaxed a bit too much knowing it was nearly over. Tell you what though, the morning of my test was horrible, I felt really sick with nerves, real deep-down in the pit of your stomach nerves. I've got my next test on the 3rd of August, six days before my 30th birthday. Have booked a one day refresher the day before my test and a bit of a tootle about on the day of the test. ... kinda. ![]() Hey, you didn't hit anyone and managed your U-turn - by the standards of some drivers on the road I'd say you were perhaps a tad over qualified to be let loose on an unsuspecting public. ![]() Here's hoping the nerves are out of your system now and good luck. |

![]() Tell you what, those examiners like to keep chat to a bare minimum before the test dont they?! I didn't even get any time to sweeten him up before the test, let alone bribe him. I suppose they're told not to get too involved with the people they're examining for legal reasons and to cover themselves, just a guess. Maybe he was just moody. Though I do think it's nice that they tell you when you're entering a nat-speed limit and vice-versa and they even give you lots of help regarding wich exit to take on roundabouts. Rather than just saying "ok, 3rd exit on the right" my examiner counted the exits for me and said "ok, take this exit" etc (very helpful). Maybe it was because some of the exits lead onto the motorway on my test route. |

I didn't really get the chance to say anything to him apart from answering his magic questions about chain condition and pillions. Though he did ask If I ride a moped (which I don't) after the test, think it was because I filtered through stationary traffic to get into a left-turn lane and left him behind on his big white Pan European hehe. Well you are told to make 'good progress' ain't ya... |
