Pre purchase checks - probably been done before

I'm looking to by an SV very soon and so wanted to do a check on one I've found. I'd like to do an HPI http://www.hpicheck.com/newfrontend/ but it's £40 and I'd rather do it cheaper. So one alternative is www.checkabike.co.uk which appears to be backed by Experian, a name I've at leats heard of.

Anyway going through the process and it asks if you have a promotion code. Quick search on google and "EXP06F&F" comes up (on another bike forum). I put it in and it accepted it. £10 off. So either £9.99 for 1 check or £14.99 for 5 (what I went for). I post this as this info might be of use to others?

Slightly worried about the result of the check as it has go the number of previous owners and date of last change wrong, but then the last change was in the last week so I'm hoping they are just a bit out of date.

Do not know if this is still current but HPI checks used to only go back 5yrs to tell you the history. I have been "burnt" before on a tinbox when going to trade in and the dealer finding it had been a write-off pre-dating our original HPI check.

Something to consider.

Thanks for that... really useful. Looking for something myself but can't make up my mind what now... started with an SV and have now moved through R6, CBR6 99-, 2000 Blade, TRX (nah) and brand spanking new orange ER6n. Course if it was the ER6 it'd still need crash bungs, and a less sowing machiney can & and an Alarm.... decisions decisions... Goodluck with the hunt
