Default max operating temperature

Hi All,

Went for a ride yesterday in the lovely sunny weather, and on the way back, I stopped and got off to text home to say i'd be a bit late. I left the bike running, and within 2 minutes the temperature gauge had risen to 103 deg C. Now the bike (when moving) normally runs around 85-90 deg, so I was wondering what the maximum operating temperature of the SV is?

Any ideas?

Rich.

Stationary 103deg C in the sun is nothing to worry about.

The fan doesn't bother itself until you hit around 100. If you see 120deg C, hit the kill switch quickly

There should be a little red light that'l come on if the bike is overheating, thats when you hit the kill switch and let the beast cool down.

My bike once heated up to 130 deg.C

I later found out the temp gauge was horrendously inaccurate, and 130 deg.C was a true temp of just over 100 deg. C - when the fan cuts in

Matt

On my K5 the fan doesn't kick in until 104, so don't worry about 103. If you're gonna leave the bike standing for any length of time you're better off killing the engine tho. Not only will it overheat, it'll be pumping out exhaust gases too.

(Yes I know I'm a hypocrite coz I like doing burnouts, but I'm also a veggie who dresses head to toe in leather... And I've got bike gear, too!)
