can i restore the carbon sleeve on me akrapovic end can

hi there peeps!!

im making me akrapovic end can into a stubby as the inlet end of the carbon can sleeve is trashed and was wondering if it would be possible to restore the carbon back to that new, dark, glossy finish as mines got that slightly dull and matt finish that comes with age. i know the fibres colour cant be restored but i was wondering if i could get it professionally lacquered and would it be a worthwhile improvement and look all nice and shiney!!

Can you not get a new sleeve from akra? or maybe another manufacturer do one that fits, CCC, Fuel and the like.

You can get replacement Ti sleeves so I would expect carbon ones are available too. I think the kit is about £120 though (I can't remember the exact price I paid). Not sure about restoring existing CF though, sorry.

I think carbon is lacquered (sp?) but not sure if it's the same as paintwork. If it is you should be able to strip and re-lacquer it. Probably easier to get parts from Akra tho.

i'd beware before you go stripping the laquer off the carbon! seeing as carbon is just a cloth, if you go through the nice shiney outside layer of laquer/resin and start sanding the cloth, you will loose the nice perfect weave pattern. maybe a light bit of wet and dry to key the surface then laquered at a body shop! or try getting a replacement sleeve!
