Default What should A 33BHP SV be capable of?

Does anyone know what a 33BHP SV will do top speed and redilne in 6th?

I have a K3 (pointy), and the most i can get out of it on the clock is 125MPH, It feels quick and all gears will redline, 6th stops at 10,500rpm with 125 showing. It seems fast and still pulls after 90/7000pm. i have a full licence but the owner before me said he had it restricted then de-restricted.

I am assuming that if it was restricted it would be done by ECU and that if it still was then 125 would not be possible?

That bike is not restricted it seems if its doing that speed, but realy it should be getting upto 132~ish.

33bhp wil give around 115 indicated again ish, varies a bit on the curvies but on the pointies the variance will be less.

Thanks, i did find out that the bike was an inport from europe as well, thanks to my local dealer, maybe that could explain the slightly lower speeed?

also that speed was after the original can had gone back on for the MOT. the rest of the time it had a carbon can company exhaust on. maybe the engine got use to that and therefore was causing it to slow down a bit??

The most i've had out of my restricted K5 'S' is 110mph on a flat road. Nothing happens after that..

are you sure it stops at 125? rather than very slowly carrying on...my k3 got to 140 this summer but it was slow going after 125, even worse after 135!

I have to second that point … the time it takes an SV to go from 125 to ~135+ you can time with a sun dial!!

And if you aren’t ‘tucked in’ it ‘aint ever gonna happen

hi all,

I was being a tool about my bike, i looked at the ECU (out of curiosity), and it had K3 SV650 full power on it, obviously from when the dealer swaped it back after the last bloke had it de-restricted!!
you are right it did take a while to get past 125 then crept slowly up to 130, done it just now on the M4 only had to slow cos of traffic (shhhh dont tell anyone LOL) and, again it was being tucked in that helped, the CCC pipe i just put back on sounded great as well. My last obsivation of 125 was probably because i hada massive backpack on without being tucked in!!

god i feel so stupid, but you live and learn.

thanks for all the advice guys!

a 33bhp bike is very obviously 33bhp. you know for sure because just as things get intereting (say 7 k) nothing happens thereafter. your bike is most definitely not restricted, as he said.

mine is a curvy. using the FI restrictor kit initially, it acted like a cruise control on the motor way- a comfortable 80-85mph, and 95-100mph absolutely flat out in the best of conditions, with your head nestled in the clocks.

it strikes me you are very new to the biking game. to redline a bike with standard gearing in 6th, you need all of (if not more than) the power the machine is capable of providing. This, for the majority of applications; (top speed vs. acceleration considered), will usually mean that 6th gear is somewhat of an overdrive, and most vehicles will therefore not redline in top gear.

125mph is quite low if it is defintely redlining in 6th in ideal conditions.my bike redlines at 105 in 4th, which when restricted, was not possible! essentially, it is capable of accelerating like your bike does now up to about 6.5k except this buggers up the running and fuelling somewhat (obviously, given the way the FI kit works) so you get fewer mpg and a generally unsatisifying ride if you are attempting anything like a mildy ambitious overtake.

the fastest I have been is 138mph on mine, with a virtually tired, inadequate triple s chain and sprocket. this was slightly downhill on a long stretch of *track*

i have yet to re-test this now that i have installed a new DID x ring chain. - i have just repaired a puncture with sealant temproarily so im not going ape**** until get some new tires.

mostly i find 78mph is about optimum cruising speed - feels comfortable.
