Default Flat spot & alarm woes

Dear all,

Picked up my shiny cheap new K6 a couple of days ago but have noticed a couple of potentially dangerous problems:

Between 4500 & 5000 in 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th there's a flat spot where the engine revs drop away to around 2000 then pick up again - just enough for the petrol tank to kick me in the balls & scare the crap out of me on the overtake! Intermittent fault, & usually happens when you're winding it up - just when you don't need it!
I've read a few things regarding this on the carb'd models, but nothing on the FI

The other is the Acumen Cat 1 alarm, works fine, apart from on the motorway where is seems to self arm, then 50s later starts going off, only seems to happen on the motorway, & causes a bit of a problem as I can't then indicate to change lanes!

Anyone got any suggestions?

Cheers

Jim

Does the alarm have an immobiliser fitted, if so this could be the cause of the flat spot, relay chattering?

Cheers Guys,

It does indeed have an immobiliser fitted, but the engine never cuts out, just the revs drop off.

I was planning to get some decent advise from you guys then pass it on to my idiot dealer! (they managed to forget to order the lower fairings, crash bungs & hugger for me!)

They're clearly idiots - you guys are clearly NOT!

Any other ideas?

Jim

Could still be the relay, just cutting out very slightly maybe.

anthing cutting out is a seriuos prob, it might be cutting out on the motorway at the mo, what if it cuts out as your pulling out of a junction.

take teh bike back and tell em to fix it pronto.

I shouls read posts properly Cat 1 alarma all have imobilisers, It is not unknown for alarm imobiliser relays to chatter and hence give misfire type problems, particularly if the one that imobilises the fuel pump ie not enough fuel big flat spot. Get the dealer to sort it out!!

Dear all,

It went back to the dealer yesterday & it transpires that it was the alarm/immobiliser causing both problems.

Thanks for all your help!

i phoned acumen a while back as my alarm kept going off without movement and they said that if the yellow ground wire is earthed it will fully alarm its self after 50 secs but if you take off the earth it will just arm the ignition alarm and imobilizer my problem was the lean angle i had to move the sensor slightly.
