Default rear shock advice needed

Hi peeps,

Just bought a secondhand shock from a SV1000 to fit to my sv650s k6.

Does anyone know if this will definitely fit this bike? Willing to cut battery box for shcok reservior if neccessary?

Also in a bit of a dilema really....shock looks in pretty sH*t condition and quoted &% quid + parts (MH racing recons 120 quid final bill) for rebuild.
PAid 60 quid for the shock initially....so....

am i better off buying a new repacement aftermarket shock from ohlins/nitron/wp/hyperpro etc and re-selling the sv1000 shock or do carry on and inject £180 into a standard road shock with basic compression and rebound??

What would you guys do? And any ideas on prices for new aftermarket ones?

forgot to mention....my usual bike is a well tricked 99 750 srad with wp suspension and i have done lots trackdays + a season of club racing.....

im finding the standard suspension of my new sv650 sk6 quite scary for fast road riding ~(ooops....i mean commuting (which is the reason for its purchase!!) at decent corner speeds on bumpy roads!!

I dont know about the shock for sure, but as the swingarms I think are different between the 1000 and 650 then I dont think thats going to fit.

If it were me and my money I'd stick with the rear shock for now unless your bikes done alot of miles, and spend your money on springs and oil on the front as thats they area that you'll get most benefit from by upgrading IMHO.

I don't know about that specific shock, but the same GSXR shocks fit into both the thou and 650 if memory serves, so there's a fair chance it'll fit. It's still not a brilliant shock even if it does fit, better than standard but the adjustability's very limited, and adjustability's your friend when bodging a shock from another bike in.

If memory serves, recent GSXR shocks are the popular bodge-in for the pointy SV. Good quality, not drastically wrong for the application, it's a compromise but then it's cheap.

I definately wouldn't get it rebuilt though, good condition used shocks cost half as much as the rebuild price, which is why nobody ever bothers rebuilding stock parts. Also, that's a good chunk towards a proper shock as you know.

getting a hyperpro set of fork springs fitted next week along with some decent oil.
gonna see how that does for now but i've decided not to get the sv1000 shock rebuilt.
shame a gsxr srad standard shock doesnt fit as i think i've got 2 of them lying around!!
