Default Gah! Exhaust fitting Help please (NOT SV - VFR!)

My lovely new Staintune exhausts are here at last and I removed the old exhaust and lots of body work to fit the new ones.

New Link pipe went on after some persuasion with a hacksaw and lots of swearing.

Left hand can fitted lovely.

Right Hand can................ will simply not 'slip-on' over the link pipe. The opening in the can is about 0.5 mm too small to slip over the link pipe. No matter what I try, it wont fit. Took the whole lot to an engineering firm so see if they could do anything, but none of the bits would fit on their machines. Best they could suggest was a dremel with a flap wheel to see if that would ease the bore of the can 'slip-on tube' enough to fit. I have no dremmel and no where to get one.

Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can open up this tube just a 0.5 mm (or so) so the damn things will fit?

Might be a dumb solution.

Heat the pipe you want opened up and cool the other pipe that needs to slip inside it. Might be enough to get it to slip over...

Hi Mike. Had the same problem with mine. Have you got an exhaust fitting place local? All they need to do is use a round wedge and wallop into the pipe a few times to flare the pipe. I think they use them quite a bit.

Is not a pipe that needs flaring. it is the part of the can where the link pipe slips INSIDE, need the link pipe shrinking or the part of the can ground out a little.

So no pipe at all jutting out from the can. Bugger.

Sorry Mike, no further tips. Any chance you could post a pic? Somebody might be inspired.

One last thing. Are the cans handed? Maybe swap em over.

Cans are handed. LHS can fits fine to both link pipes. RHS will not fit either. Hence I conclude that the RHS can is too narrow and the link pipes are fine.

Well sadly the only real option is to dismantle the 1 can and sound off to Staintune. Why does nothing ever fit without "adapting".

However I guess you've cut some off the standard system and you're beyond the point of no return.

If Yorkie Chris were there perhaps he could weld it up.

If you got the cans new from staintune then I sugest you contact them and ask for another right hand silencer! If you got it new but second hand its a shame you don't have a dremel as that would blitz the job in no time, try cutting some slots in the link pipe so when the can is slid over the top it compresses a little...

Mind you .5mm is small, heating the link pipe up and forcing the silencer in with a rubber hammer should work. Either mark the can and link pipe so they will line up straight before hand and do it off the bike or be very careful on what you apply heat to (and the surrounding area).
