Help! Instruments not working!

On the way to work this morning the bike gave a jolt, kind of like a back-fire, but wihtout the bang, and then my instruments stopped working.

The headlights still work, but I've got no tail/brake light, parking light, indicators, tacho, speedo, or instrument panel lights (neutral, indicators etc.)

Any ideas whether it'd be a fuse giving out, or a problem with the regulator, or something bigger?

Had the exact same thing happen to mine a while ago.

It's a fuse gone. 15amp IRRC. The mini fuses under the seat.

I disconnected the brake light switches and found the fuse didn't blow.

Took off the rear plastics and found a tiny nick in the loom which was touching the frame. Sorted that out and no further problems. Could be any bare wire, but would suggest checking the lights and indys first.

Cheers Pete - took it straight to the mchanics in the end, and they initially thought it was just a 15amp fuse going, as you suggest, which was a pain, cos I could esaily have fixed that myself!

However, as I left, the fuse went again, so clearly the problem was bigger. Turned out to be a similar problem to the one you mention, but it was in the wiring loom behind the headlights rather than at the rear.

All sorted now anyway.
