This is true. But it should state "To only be used when really really annoyed by someone".

I use mine now then whilst commuting on the ring road.

More times than i can remember I have been sat in the left hand lane and people have started moving across. You cant go forwards, you can brake but not wuickly enough....you have to use your horn.

One time a van was moving over, I had looked for a way out, nowhere to go. Used the horn for a fairly long period, no response. Ended up banging on the side of the van at which point he swerved nearlly taking me off anyway.............Guy was so busy on his phone he was oblivious to everything around him.

BS. I'm perfectly capable of emergency braking with my right hand whilst hitting the horn button with my left.

I usually use the horn to warn other drivers *before* they do anything stupid. It's called 'anticipation' and comes with experience.

Oh, and I used it this morning alongside Mr Cnut In A Range Rover who was busy chatting on his mobile, on the North Circular.

Yep. All this "never use the horn, under any circumstances, it's always your fault if you have to" stuff is ******ks. If it were only possible to use it to antagonise other road users (rather than alert people to your presence, thereby preventing accidents), do people really think it would be allowed to be on a road vehicle at all, never mind required by law.

I've used the horn before when riding up the M4 on my way back from a Soho meet. So it was fairly late if not very early in the morning. The motorway was virtually empty. As I was passing a car in the middle lane (that's me in the middle lane) the car started to drift quite quickly into my lane.

I gave a good press of the horn. It was at this point that the driver woke up, over reacted with the steering wheel and brakes and ended up fish tailing along the motorway.

The driver just about managed to gain control before hitting anything.

After the initial annoyance, I had a little chuckle to myself.

Don't think I've used my horn more than once, and that was the first day of SVdom and I, err, used an alternate method of turning off my indicator..

To be honest, I think the horn is a little embarrassing. Bring on Stebel Nautilus..
