Blasting is probably best, and the blaster you choose will be able to advise on what material is best to use - sand, shot, grit and so on.

However, it may not be necessary to go back to the bare metal, and if you do, careful consideration must be given to what primer you'll need to use.

Sounds like a fun project!

One of the major stages will be getting a heck of a lot of the metal parts including the frame and panels back to bare metal. What will be the best way for me to do this or would it be better (cheaper) to send them all off when it's stripped to be sandblasted or acid dipped, if indeed that's possible.

Also any good sources of info for such a project would be gratefully received.
I got a 63' li (125)150, they are cool.
I had a sx150(125) when i was 17, sold it for £300 i think, they are worth shed loads now.
Going back on that now after riding the sv seems too slow, need to get a 186cc barrel and piston i think.
By the way, powder coat is the way.

I've restored a few lammys - blasted then powder coated the frames.

What do you both reckon about plastic pattern panels and mudguard? Both panels need beating and I thought it might make sense to get some good plastic/fibreglass ones.

Personally, i would stick with metal, they are that cheap now with so many patterned parts available.
I bought a stainless steel mudguard for mine for £30.
Cambridge lambretta are a good source for decent stuff.

I'll see if my panel is good enough to ebat back into shape. It fell off the scooter before I owned it.

I've been looking at Cambridge Lambretta. It looks like a brilliant place to get nearly everything I'll need! I've actually had a few new parts for years but never got round to touching it what with me getting interested in bikes.
