SSD are much faster and don't need defragging from what I've read, plus no platters to break
What program are you using to rip or covert files? Are you watching them on the netbook or hooking a cable up to a bigger screen? If its just the netbook, then you can make the file size quite small and I use this to rip DVD's to a portable HDD. I've got about 400 on a 2tb HDD. Usually file size is around 1Gb from a 4.4 gb DVD with no appreciable loss in quality on a big screen. You could compress the file size even smaller if you're just watching on the netbook http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-ripper-platinum/ Its worth paying for the full version.

I use the netbook on a bigger screen so like to keep the quality quite high.
Back to the original question though. Do I definitely need to get the more expensive but slower DDR2?

What OS are you using, I had a netbook with XP and upgraded it to 2gig ram and it made no differance what so ever, it rarely used more then 700meg of ram under XP when multitasking so it looked like the CPU was the limiting factor. If your using 7 started I would imagine you would see a performance advantage by increasing your memory Last edited by grimey121uk; 28-12-11 at 04:08 PM. |

You can alter the quality to suit you, even ripped DVD's at just over 1gb are still high quality on my 40 in screen

I am using Windows 7.
TBH I am not sure upgrading the RAM will give me much advantage but for £15 I was willing to take a punt. At £50 I prob wont bother. Another option I have seen on other forums is to use readyboost with an SD card I have an 8gb one in my camera so I will see if that helps at all. I will have a look at that ripping software cause mine are all around 4gb

not worth it unless you use SDHC and its realy fast plus the SD controller is fast, the card life is going to be fairly short too, most peeps dont use readyboost it comes from vista days when the OS thrashed the disks
