Went for can but for definaltley get soom crash bungs, if you new to biking or even if your not there a good chance that the bike going to be dropped/knocked over in the next few years.

Looking back, I wish I had bought stuff as people sold it second hand. Would have saved a ton of cash. So here's my advice.

Get the bungs and sort the forks. Even a simple oil change will stop them diving so much.

You may want to think of changing the stock tyres too, but I've found them ok (I'm a newbie and take it easy mainly).

Then snap up the odd bargain as and when. Eg, there's a nice looking carbon fibre tail tidy in the for sale section right now, for less than a new steel one.

Fender Extender, Scottoiler and R&Gs (crash bungs). If you get the R&Gs second hand, you'll also have the money for a double bubble screen, which if you're reasonably tall, is a good comfort improvement, as well as improving the looks.

Edit: Oh and non of these mods is likely to effect your insurance costs apart from a £20 or so "admin fee" when you first declare them (unless you do so at the time of policy renewal).
