The main fuse would mean no lights, no ignition etc. I'm assuming they haven't been mentioned because they're fine.

I could be wrong though.

Wasn't sure about that , it's just the Haynes manual shows fuses in the starter motor relay and they're 30amp.

There is one there too, I just don't consider that to be the "main" fuse (even though it's labeled as such). That's more of a dedicated starter fuse in my eyes.

To me, the "main" fuse is the one that deals with the ignition (orange wire out of fuse box), because the starter relay gets power from the ignition circuit.

I suppose that's just all lexical issues though

Ah, so there are two 30 amp fuses. Thought the relay was an odd place to have the main fuse. No problems Baph, you are clearly far more clued up on the circuitry than I am. See, I said I was a numpty.

So, Budro, have you checked the fuse in the starter relay?

Default starter relay

is this fuse one of the ones under the drivers seat or are there others that are located elsewhere. cause I haven't even seen a 30 amp fuse yet. (it feels like I am getting close to something though)

plus if I remember right (before I looped the circuit on the side stand so that I could take the side stand off for track days) you are able to start the engine (in neutral) with the side stand down but the engine would kill itself if you tried to put it into gear with it down. So the side stand switch option is dead.
Now when this mess started I tried to do the same to the clutch switch (cut and loop the circuit so that it permanently closed) was this a wise thing to do, could the problem lie there, and that fuse is buggin me I can't find it. The only fuses I can find are the ones under the drivers seat, none of them (to my memory were marked starter, but I will check again)

The starter relay is , apparently, under the right hand vented cover. In the Haynes manual it shows two 30 amp fuses. 1 is a spare I presume, so check there. Also some info that might be handy below.

Symtoms are identical to those I had on my Divvy. I eventually tracked it down to a corroded terminal on the starter relay which was in a position exposed to road salt. Petevtwin's Haynes manual seems to be pointing you towards a fault with the starter relay as well. Perhaps the fall has finally parted a corroded terminal connection ?

Not quite, no.

There's only one 30A fuse on the SV that I know of. The "main" fuse that I was talking about goes off to a relay (starter relay, bosch style). When you hit the starter button, you're actually closing the relay circuit to draw power straight from the battery.

If you try drawing 30A through the ignition circuit, it'd probably melt (and it'd almost certainly fry the LCD panel on a pointy - I don't own a curvy...), hence the use of the relay.

Anyway, that's getting a little off topic (sort of).

oh-k I am still testing the relay (believe it or not) and I was just wondering: In those terrific (much thanks by the way) abode documents that was sent I am told to test the relay by taking it out and running 12 volts through it. I don't have such equipment for this so I was wondering what your thoughts on just drawing this energy directly from the bike's battery were. (would it fry the relay)
