Get yourself a neoprene brace for the short-term as Rictus says then pop on down to the GP. Knees are third only to backs and male genitalia for poor design, so it's worth getting checked out.

As for loos not flushing - have a really good curry and then take the day off on health and safety grounds. Cite your safety or your co-workers, i don't think it'll matter either way.
