Despite my initial impressions, having now ridden the 749 on decent rubber, its a briliant bike. If you like twins you'll love the 749.

Yes, especially if you buy the 2004 onwards model bikes.

I am on a sv1000 learning curve having spent a couple of weeks on one after 2 years on 650s.

The main reason you cant razz it like a 650 is that you have to think a bit more about what you are doing with the throttle, its still not a vicious delivery but you are aware of the extra.
Handling is more planted, although I am still playing with settings.

Obviously IL4 1000s are faster but the SV1000 is still noticeably accelerating after the point I have vmax'd my 650. At the moment of any stretch of road it is about 20mph faster.

Save for an IL4 1000 sports bike. They aren't as expensive as you might think if you shop around for deals. In my experience their handling is closer to an SS600 than to the SV650S so you should find that side of it impressive as well as the grunt and awesome power.

This is something i have to look into, i mean i turned up the idle to 1400rpm and took her out for a spin today and she feels like a different bike sound stupid but she feels better already now shes not on the verge of cutting out, thing is with the suspension i dont know enuf to start messing with it?
