I fancy Dunlop Roadsmarts next... Thing is, if you do real world riding, ie you ride sometimes in the cold or the wet, sports tyres are worse than this sort of "sport touring" tyres, sure super-stickies can give a load of confidence in the dry but they tend to feel rubbish in the wet, and that's the time when you most need a helping hand. It does depend on your riding, though, if you keep it in the garage til the sun comes out they're not such a no-brainer, though still a good choice.

i have so far managed 4k on my thou and still have about another 500 left in them.

i am ridiculously impressed with these tyres. they are the only tyres i have ever ridden on that still heat up in the peeing rain. sooo much feedback from them aswell. a mate of mine that instructs fitted them to his instructor bike and he cant say enough good things about them.

i can also remember an article by bike about a year ago that concluded that sport touring tyres are more than enough for the road and occassional track day.

Ed I have Diablo Rossos which cost me £200 fitted on loose. I like them, they warm up quicker than the Corsa IIIs I had previously. At first they seem vague, but suddenly you realise that they are damm good tyre with lots of cornerning ability.

So argue with your fitter that you want them for £200.

£222 is about right for those. I just rang a couple of plcaes and they quoted between £205 and £220 for the 675.

I can see where peeps are coming from suggesting sport touring tyres instead of full on rubber. After all, the latest generation STT must be as good as 5 year old FON. It's just a bit of a leap of faith to "downgrade" when you consider the cost.

Has given me some food for thought though.

But you have seen how Y-C (and me on NW4) go two up on the Avon Storms, which are sport touring tyres. Also on the SV you swore by your Michelin Pilot Road 2CT (or whatever they were) which are Sport Tourers? Damage scared the crap out of Stretchie on his Avon Azarros on NW3.5, Avon's previous ST tyre....

For road riding I would say ST tyres are more than 'good' enough with the added benefit of improved wet grip and greater longevity.

Aye, but you guys can ride. I need all the edge I can get.

It was nice to have a bike that I could fit "proper" sporty tyres to, but I'm not sure I'm really going to get the benefit TBH.

I put Michelin Pilot Power 2ct's on my gixer just before the Nurburgring trip last year and they are awesome. 1200 mile trip to the Ring, 3 laps round it, a trackday and about 500 more road miles and they still have loads of life. They feel really nice in the wet (it was peeing down on the day I had them fitted and riding back from the tyre shop they felt very planted).

Paid £186 fitted including new right angled valves from Central Wheel in Birmingham. Worth a trip down I reckon

EDIT: That's the 2ct's working overtime in my avatar

Surely by having your knee-down - a third contact point, you were in fact giving them a bit of a break

Well done
