250's coming back....yay!!

Got a RGV 250 in the garage.

i know 250 two strokes are great little handling bikes but dont the engines go "POP" easy?

Engines go as well as you treat them mate. Warmed up properly and ran on the best 2 stroke oil (castrol TTS, Motul 600 etc) they will be reliable. As long as you get one that hasnt ben thrashed mind, also an italian one built on a friday afternoon wont be any good!

on men and motors there was a programe following racers i think it was called NATRUAL BORN RACERS. they were running little 2strokes with all the best gear,mechanics and oil and they were great when running properly but very unreliable.

Hey nice bike. In Victoria Australia all learners and riders with their licence for less than a year have to ride a 250. They dont sell your bike here, only the old CB250 and the VTR250 (mine is like the one below).



A Hornet 250 would be awesome. Most learners here buy old grey import CBR250RR's which are repainted to look like current models. As such theres a pretty big market for 250's here.

Obviously how you maintain them is a factor, but it's simply true that a smallish 2 stroke on a sports styled bike is pretty likely to go pop at some point if it's pushed anywhere near it's potential.

I have to tell you that my poor 250 triple was thrashed for almost 3 years and never failed me once! That was a great bike! Little end bearings got a bit noisey but apart from that,(which would have been a relatively easy fix) she ran great. Only failures were due to me throwing her down the road during my formative biking years(17 to 20!)
