It's also 56% of my original payment. Not far out of that 60-65% that I was quoted, and I haven't set one company off against the other yet!
EDIT: A 2002 GSXR750 would cost me £245 FC as well. Last edited by Baph; 10-07-07 at 01:24 PM. |

you have to remember that the discounts they quote are only on the main basis of the premium. This could be as low as 50% of what you are actually paying.
Basically they say (inventing numbers) Premium £100 young person levy £20 limited experience levy £20 fully comp uplift £100 legal cover £15 protected NCD £10 other haggled benefits levy £20 so you end up with a premium of £295 for fully comp. The they apply their "65%" discount and it actually goes down to £230. Its not an exact science, but the NCD etc does not apply to any additional Levies that they add to your base premium, and they won't discuss the levies if you ask them. |

Jar, re-read the thread.
![]() I paid £330 for the last years insurance, FC on the SV. For the SV, changing no details at all (in fact, dropping my alarm off the quote!! - it's not thatcham approved), but adding 1years NCB alone, I've been quoted £185. That's 56% (185/330*100) of last years premium, or the other way around, a 44% saving (on the total value of the premium). I still have some hunting around to do to beat the premiums down, then play a few companies against each other. I should be stupidly close to that 65% discount overall by the end of it. |

Yeah I saw all of that. I am in exactly the same position but my 1st year runs until 06/08.
It isn't as noticeable with the bikes because of the lower levies but it is massively noticeable with cars. I also notice a new levy which is the "how much we need new customers" levy. This is what makes the insurance companies vary hugely each year. I, for one, will never take a renewal on without a bit of shopping. It was just a point of interest. But yes, I had a £400 run for the last year on my Kwak and this year it is coming in about £220. Good tips for other companies btw, go compare is pretty sweet! |

Check the excesses on the policy too ... I had a quick look at the "Free insurance or £99 for a years insurance (or whatever it was)" on a new Suzuki ... the excess on the policy seems a rather steep £500.
This is my first year of having bike insurance, and I can't even remember what I paid (think it was around the £350-£400 mark). Got my insurance through eBike (who also insure cars - eCar, vans - eVan, and your home - eHome). I shopped around and they gave me the best deal. Not sure how much of a discount they give you for having more than one policy with them, but I got a really good deal on my car too with them. Pros ... cheap insurance, do most of it online ![]() Cons ... claims line isn't the best I've ever dealt with :/ Their approved repairers for my area was Lonsdale Bikes (nr Burnley) whom I couldn't fault at all and would definitely recommend.
