I have overtaken fire engines, ambulances and an unmarked police car. I dont recomend the last one at all, other 2 never had a problem.

Legal people must bend the truth otherwise they would always agree and can you imagine that in court ... your client is guilty .... i agree.... case closed. How would they get paid?

Strongly doubt it had a camera on that would legally be able to be used as evidence for prosecuting you - the balance of cost and hassle vs how many people it would catch is ludicrous.

Overtaking an ambulance (especially one on call) is bad taste though. Stick close behind it and let it clear a high speed path through the car-driving morons for you, that's what I do. Police cars are good for that too, plus you get the bonus that if they're on a call they have no interest in you tailing them at 90+mph. Only done that once but what a joy...

Ditto - no problem. Ambulance, Fire and Police don't seem to like each much from my experience so probably wouldn't do anything anyway unless you were being really silly. I would also think that ambulances will have enough to worry about.

I've always had problems following emergency vehicles as I find that people pull in behind the ambulance/copper/fire engine without actually looking if anything is following it. This seems seems ironic if it's an ambulance you're following!

cheers

Just a word of advice for those who like to "follow" emergency vehicles through the traffic.Dont.Best thing is to just get out of their way and let them get out of your space and away.Tailgating an emergency vehicle is very dangerous and can be very embarrassing.Especially if the vehicle stops, driver gets out and has a go at you in the middle of a three lane traffic jam.

well - i spend my working life as a paramedic in london and i can tell you that there are no speed cameras fitted to ambulances. my employers dont have enough cash to provide us with uniform most of the time so believe me they wont be spunking any money on cameras.

tailgating any vehicle on an emergency call is not the best idea - as there are usually 2 people on ambo/panda car and the passenger can just look behind and take your plate number (if in a car obviously) - believe me it does happen.

and about overtaking an ambulance on a single carrigeway - if were on blue lights, we may think your a pr*ck but we dont have the time or inclanation to spend reporting you to anybody - provided of course you dont cause an accident or we end up attending to you a little further down the road when youve overcooked it

oh and the police and us have a good relationship - but neither of us like the brickies
