Unhappy Why don't companies reply to job applications!!?

Right... going to be boring...

I need a job, being a graduate, and I've sent off loads of applications;

A) Engineering based ones (technically I'm a mechanical engineer!).

B) Something that pays, that isn't a bar job (I can't stand working at one! Sorry to those who do!).

...so you submit application form/CV and wait... and wait...

Maybe the odd reply (minority), but why not a confirmation email (esp. from online applications!)?

Its demeaning.

As I said, boring thread, but its good to annoy others with it!

(PS If someone has a genuine idea let me know, please!)

Probably because at the moment they'll be getting hundreds of applications for each post

If they haven't got the courtesy to reply, they are not worth working for...

think about it differently - do you really want to work for a company who's HR practice is so rubbish they don't even acknowledge receipt of your application?

What a shame, Mr VT is a Mech Eng and they just hired someone where he works as business seems to be booming there.
Hope you find something soon.

Have you thought of applying for a work experience placement somewhere? I get a few requests, and as its a minimal cost to us and good for image I have managed to accomodate a few in recent years. There is never a job at the end of it, but I've given some good references to those I think deserve it, which I hope has made a difference.

I get loads of unsolicited CVs. You will be surprised to read that few bother to put an email address, most are semi literate and are plainly fishing trips, and none but none include an SAE. Why should I spend 36p on the franker for this sort of drivel? That's not a rubbish policy Debs, it's common sense.

OP - dare to be different and enclose an SAE. I think your reply rate will increase quickly.

I know how you feel, I just finished my first apprenticeship year and now need to find an employer, in the last 2-3 months the training company who were 99% sure that they would be able to fin a placement for us seem to have given up so It looks like im going to have a bit of trouble finding a placement.

FFS send a SAE with an application. I find it really irritating when people don't bother.
