i reckon you have to take a bit of stick whoever you are in life, the trick is to learn to laugh at it and not take it too personally.
sure people have perceptions of girls who ride, but that can work in your favour as well as against you. like you generally get away with more from the cops. and people help you out. and your masculine pride doesn't get hurt if you can't twizzle the bike round on its stand, fix X problem, etc. and you get a pretty good chance of finding someone of the opposite sex who shares your passion for bikes. and you can smile sweetly and get coffees bought for you. stuff like that really... ![]() PS. it's good fun to see peoples faces when you're quicker than them on a 'girls bike' - and that applies whether you're a guy or a girl riding it! no we don't. Well, not always.
I've had several incidences where I was ignored/refused service as a female biker. On every occasion, I walked away and a sale was lost/reputation damaged. More fool them. On the other hand, an after-market parts supplier showered me with freebies purely out of respect for me riding a big bike. And plenty of appreciative nods and comments whilst out on the road for having a trick bike and being able to handle it. |

I get it all the time working in a bike shop!, i can usually shut them up with a "I also ride/own a zx9r ninja"..that usually does the trick.
Had 2 guys on sunday, was explaining 3 line braided brake line set up to them- one turns to his mate and goes "Oh shes not just a pretty face, she knows her stuff"...i walked off and refused to deal with them ![]() Last edited by Paws; 07-03-07 at 10:54 AM. |
