I bet you could pick up a gpz500 for peanuts and sell it on for no loss when you've finished with it - me mate picked one up for £300...

I know a lot of mates with larger ones they seem a little big and heavy, any difference with the smaller variety?

ER5 or CB500

Cheap and cheerful and you should be able to sell it for what you paid for it, so you wont loose any money.

Either that or a older Bandit or GPZ as somebody else has suggested.

A second vote for GPZ500, or an ER5. Same thing but without the fairing. Cheap to buy and cheap to run.

thanks, i really don't want to be spendin a fortune on a bike that won't be around that long especially seeing as I.m throwing money at suzy. I'm not like me bloke that hoards them. are'nt er5's centre stand only or gpz, I got a silly back and just can't perform the centre stand trick

I used to have a GPZ500 - cheap, cheerful & reliable.

Has both side-stand and centre-stand.

If you're not travelling too far then a 125 would be good, they weigh nothing and there are always learners to buy them off you. Otherwise GS500 has been around since Noah and are fairly reliable, also not the sort of thing a boy racer would ride anyway.

I had a GPZ500 before my SV. I managed to sell it for more than I bought it for after a year of ownership, and that is definitely a plus in my mind.

Bikes like the GPZ, CB500 & ER5 will sell on easily when you are done as there is always a market for them as they are ideal first bikes. Cheap to run and insure too.

erm had a complete u turn and am after another sv.... in black. Hope to pick up next week.
After much debate we decided that theres an awful lot of work to be done to Suzy and doing it in stages could unearth some very nasty surprises as shes never been dismantled so much which would mean she wouldn't be ready for the trip to france. So I am in the process of buying another, whilst Suzy has her surgery I'll be riding to France on another Sv
My mate Pat the bike mc had an accident a few months ago and is slowly learning to walk again and is rather keen to fix suzy as a rehabilitation project for the both of them.

So now I will be a greedy girl, and thanx for all your suggestions. Although originally i was after a cheap run around, this option proved to be my only alternative. Just hope the new one is as good as it looks
