Default BMW F650CS - Should I?

People of the 'org - I need a little advice...

I have been offered the chance to buy a fire damaged 2004 BMW F650CS - its a Belgian registered machine that was under a cover that was set fire to whilst waiting to be registered - the fire damage appears to be mainly superficial although it has melted some of the wiring so it doesnt currently run
but has only covered 2,500kms - a friend has put me onto it and reckons it could go for pennies - I have pictures but wont post them just yet - I was thinking a quick tidy up and streetfighter job and its a cheap hack - worth a punt do you think?

Similar to this...

Yup, almost everything is affected. How's the frame, doubt it's weakened as probably a short & not very intensive fire.
I doubt it's a popular bike to have tons of parts on ebay.
But for, say, £300? you can't go wrong ( even if you end up just parting out the engine etc.)

If you want it back looking nice, don't bother. If you are just going to scrub it a bit and get it going, then its probably a bargain. As a cheap winter hack, yes possibly a good buy.

Thats my plan to offer next to nothing for it (after an inspection) - it wasnt insured as he didnt realise you could insure it on the chassis number and also he inherited it anyway so he is not out of pocket in any way...

Going to phone him at lunch to arrange a viewing...

Agreed.

I'll usually buy anything that will turn a profit, but that is beyond what I'd want to repair, there won't be any money in it.

It's a BMW and the market for the F650 is limited at best. BMW buyers are very discerning, like to buy from dealers and will want their new bike to be a shining example of the breed (personally, I think all BMWs are highly overpriced and over-rated rubbish). So unless you can make it 100%, have a definite buyer lined up and there's no HPI History then go ahead, but I think you'll have trouble selling it.

Avoid like the plague is my advice.

But I think he intends to use it himself rather than sell it on.
