I've not come off yet or dropped the SV (almost dropped it). When I get my gear on, start the bike up and ride off I feel alive!

I type this and yearn to be out on my bike. When I get home from a ride out, 99.9% of the time I want to go straight back out.

If you dont feel a little like I do, then I wonder why you're riding at all.

Just my thoughts

Not a whole lot about biking is in truth...logical. It's not about wondring about the what if's as they are potentially there in connection with most aspects of our lives, bikes or not.

It's all about "the buzz" simple as. People have different degrees of it or feel more of it in different situations,,,,but "the buzz" is what it is all about. You could own a real piece of crap, but if it goes and you can get out there for a run...you feel ace.

Having "the buzz" does not mean you are prepared to ride like a loon or in whatever elements present themselves,it is an each to their own.

I ride,(when of course I have a machine) at almost any available free moment, but only in the conditions that I like. I hate rain for example! But just getting myself ready to go out, even the night before I start to get butterflies. I still get as excited as when I first ever rode when way too young to be on the roads! It is my one and only true escape from the real world and I am so happy that I discovered bikes so many years ago.

I often feel this way recently, seeing so many people coming off, getting hurt, being off work for months at a time, and thats just on this forum. Does it ever make you think?

I alway used to say I could never see myself getting badly hurt or predict when I would die and for what reason. Then I took up biking. Now I'm waiting for the day I fall off, badly hurt/break something. I often think that I cant see myself living past 30 at this rate, which is unusual for me as i never used to think like that.

Some days i just sit and think;-

-Could loose my licence
-Could loose my job
-Could badly hurt myself
-Could kill myself
-Could leave loved ones behind
-The list goes on

All of those things above scare the hell out of me recently and it effects my riding and my enjoyment.

Anyway thats my morbid monday morning thread to out the way.

Discuss lol
Every day mate ... I think when you stop thinking like that you get complacent and ... well you know!!

As a biker - bearing in mind the statistics, only an idiot would not count the days!!

Love that quote

Ever thought of getting a supermoto? Still loads of fun and they're limited at the top end.

Exactly my sentiments. Anyone that doesn't stop and think about it for a while now and then, is living in what must be blissful ignorance
If we close ourselves off from the risks you outlined entirely, then we wouldn't last 5 minutes, and that's why I think anyone that claims not to think about it is a liar

I don't let it get me down, but I do occasionally have morbid thoughts. I have also questioned myself a few times whilst pondering "the bigger picture".
Such as: "Here I am, riding this motorcycle, it has cost me a significant amount of money to be atop this thing. Would I still be doing this tomorrow if someone said 'I'll give you every single penny you've spent on this pastime back in exchange for you giving up riding'?" I ask myself this because, like many of us, I forked out before really knowing if I'd enjoy it or not, and I can imagine a lot of people do feel compelled not to give it up, even if deep down they know it's not really for them. That's not a good situation to be in.

Edit: my answer to the question above is yes, of course.

Doesn't really bother me, theres often times when I think "what the f### am I doing here," usually when its dark and cold and you're in between a pair of artics.
The way I see it is that when its your day its your day, a good friend of mine recently died of cancer at age 39, nicest bloke you could ever meet and he lived healthy too.
So this is why every time I'm on a bike and give it some beans it puts a big smile on my face, its what I love doing, and I hope my family understands that.
The only other thing is if I ever become cabbaged would somebody please have the good manners to shoot me through the head a few times. Ta.

Chris

I was so very nervous the time I got my bike, had no idea what it is was able to do, but now its amazing!

As everyones says life is way too short! My grandad has a stroke last week, we have no idea what the outcome of it will be. He is 89 this year! we shoudl all follow his example of living life to the full. He regular goes on hoilday with my gran, still goes fisihing, takes trips to ireland to fish and still drives and loves a beer! As I said on another therad he is lucky to be alive, oh yeah he crashed his motorbike, sometime in the 30/40's. Before any of the gear we have now! He learnt to ride by some going in the army, you come here your now motorbike patrol!! He was always into bikes and cars, kool eh!

He got took into hospital, well he said they took dressing off to look at the cut and blood sprayed up the wall opps!

Enjoy your self out there!

I sometimes think like that, and then I think "I could meet some gorgeous dippy blonde and get lucky tonight" and all my troubles fade away to be replaced by my sick Swarfega and Belstaffs fantasies.
