I think that zig zags are at both sides of crossings to clearly mark where you can not park/stop.
The view can be obstructed for both pedestrians and road users if vehicles are parked close to the crossing.
You can overtake on zig zags if the traffic is stationary and you do not pass the front vehicle. AFAIK

Yes I always thought this was the case. No parking, and no overtaking the lead vehicle.

Why won't a riot van pull you? If you are commiting an offence they can stop you no matter what vehicle you are in.

What if it the the traffice guys on the way to a training course? All in one vehicle and riot van is most appropriate.

I absolutely hate that saying, its so blatently untrue. Its impossible to function without assuming something about everything.

I assume when I get out of bed the floor will not collapse and dump me into the cellar I assume must be under my house, as I assume burglars did not sneak in and brick it up while I was asleep.

When you make a mug of tea do you pour a little bit in the cup and swirl it around as the cup may have a hole in it or just pour it in and assume the liquid will stay in there.

Bleh.

Me too- though I had an old boss who used to say it in a really smug way. Made me want to smash her brains out with a teaspoon over a number of days.

I assume that wouldn't be the most efficient or effective method?!!?

Its more likely just to casue bruising!!

Let me put it another way. The chances are very high that the riot van will not pull you as opposed to a marked T5! I don't mean tear past at 100mph hoiking a wheelie but certainly I filter past paddies over zig zags (well, I refuse to sit in stationary traffic) and I've never been pulled yet. You takes your chances.
