Asked girlfriend to pick up some oil and a filter for me. She came home with Castrol Actevo GP? (4T 10W 40) Does anyone know if this is ok?

Nope it sounds like it for a car... Car oils have minerals in (or the other way round) them that could damage bike engines as they are not designed to deal with the 'wet' gearbox motorcycles have.
Just looked it up and it is a bike oil... just looking further. |

Thought 10W 40 is all that matters? Thats what the SV is anyway.

Nope, not supposed to use fully synthetic with the Suzuki clutches as it can cause clutch slip. So would advise against fully synthetic, if you have to buy then go for 10W-40 semi synthetic and you cant go wrong.

Busters sell this so the interweb tells me. Full info here:
Bottom line is it's a motorcycle specific 4 stroke oil of the correct viscosity (10W 40). It also meets API SG rating, which I believe is the standard required by Suzuki for the SV650 engine (required standard may be SF, in which case this exceeds it). It'll be fine. It is a mineral oil, rather than a fully, or semi synthetic oil which probably means it will offer less protection toward the end of it's life than it might. The service intervals on the SV are only 3,500 miles though, and it'll be fine for that I'm sure. HTH Jambo

I think the SV is a SF required rating, so yes it would exceed it...

If your car has a dry gearbox, then it might be a good idea to consult a mechanic, probably best to take it to him on a trailer.
