Default Diesel can get cars too...

Completely lost steering while joining the motorway last night on a steep bending slip road. Got steering back at the front but back end came round to meet me. Held in a sideways drift for a moment or two before nose clipped the armco and tyres clipped the kerb. Car spun though 180 degrees and planted it's rear in the armco.

I'm fine other than a bit of back pain.

Anyone have an opinion on it being written off or repaired?

At least your ok.

I was at some traffic lights in my car the other day on a very steep hill. I had my girlfriend next to me and pointed out to her some desiel which was everywhere so she knew what to look out for.....she said 'it cant be that slippy can it'........I tell you what I could not pull away from the light for love nor money, i had to roll back take a different line at it.

As for it being a write off, hard to tell without seeing it, the chassis 'looks' straight in that pic, is the boot floor or rear wheel structure damaged?

It definately fixable, whether in the insurance companis eyes it is I dont know.

You mean severe back pain? Laid up, lost earnings, injury lawyers a go-go back pain? That's what I thought. Shame on you, you malingerer!

Woo, nasty. Sounds like it could have been worse though.

Thanks folks, the back is not too bad, just a bit of stiffness and bruising, don't think it's anything that'll last.

The boot floor is damaged in that back corner, below the rear light cluster. There is nothing touching the rear wheel, but driving it home I stopped to check because it sounded as if there was, that could just be the tyre slightly out of shape or something and 'cos there's now a hole where the rear light assembly should be I could hear it, or it could be something mechanical damaged.

Bodyshop will be in touch in the next two days to get it taken away and the damage assessed.

It could have been worse if I'd hit the armco sideways and flipped over it. Or my baby boy could have been in the car which just doesn't bear thinking about, he's a lot more fragile than me and the car spun round pretty violently. I'm going to be driving so slowly and carefully with him in the car now 'cos I looked at him this morning and just prayed my thanks that I was alone in the car.

At the end of the day who cares about the car? The only reason I'd like to know if it'll be written off is so I can start car shopping if I need to.

echoing the other comments, glad you're ok

as another ford owner i can say that i doubt it'll be cheap to repair, but i think you knew that anyway - for reference, when i had a flying road barrier land on my 53 focus, the repairs required were:

New windscreen
New Headlamp unit
Resprayed bonnet
Polish scratches from front bumper

the total was ~?800, however a lot of that was the windscreen as it was heated so cost ?155 + VAT, fyi the headlamp unit was ?100 + VAT

hope you get it fixed quickly and cheaply
