Default ZX-6R or GSXR owners?

Are they any good and would i like them?

Went out for a ride with a mate who's just passed his DAS last night and got himself a new Fazer. We did half the ride on our own bikes and then swapped over and i rode the Fazer the second leg and he had the SV. Not saying i want a Fazer but riding a different bike made me think i need a change. Got the blessing from the missus to chuck a bit of cash at a second bike and the favourites of the moment are either the ZX-6R or a GSXR 600/750 (the silver/white only).

Really liked the feel of the Fazer, the slick brakes and rock solid stability at speed (i looked down at the speedo and was doing well over a ton without realising i was even remotely near that sort of speed, the SV would have been shaking itself apart by then and feeling like it was on ice). BUT, i HATED the engine, stupidly, stupidly revvy, felt like it had no guts at all even though the speedo said otherwise - so basically my question is - are the ZX-6 and GSXR engines anything like that or with their extra tuning do they have noticebly more balls? Guessing Gixxer 750 is probably the best bet but what are the 600's really like from anyones experience? Ideally i'd like to go the 600's due to purchase price/insurance but if they are remotely sewing-machine like i dont think they'd be my bag.

Don't think anyone here owns either of those, sorry

I am guessing, but you might find the Fazer was flatter than a proper SS600 - these take off in the higher RPM. Out of interest did you redline the Fazer, it should still give you a nice shove in the higher echelons?

If you only want a silver/white GSX-R you're limited to the 600, it's not a 750 colour (however there is a limited edition orange/black if you are interested).

You would need to get a test ride to see if they suit you, realistically.

The K6 GSXR 600 I rode began to pull strongly from 6000rpm, my 750 pulls from about 4000rpm, a shove at 7000rpm, and then a massive shove of power at 10000rpm till you hit the limiter.

The extra BHP and torque of the 750 is worth the extra money IMHO.

As Muffles says, get yourself a test ride, you wont be disappointed. Not only is there more power, the chassis, suspension and brakes are far superior to the SV.

I certainly wouldn't describe my gixxer 600 as having 'sewing machine-like power'! it is a different type of power delivery though - less initial punch but for most of the power band it delivers at least as well as an SV, and from c. 10K revs it is a lot stronger.

the SV is tprobably the better bike if you do a lot of town work, but at higher speeds the handling on the SS600s is superb, you really don't feel the speed at all (dangerous for licence keeping BTW!)

best thing you can do it test ride one and see. but be warned you will probably want one!!

oh yeah +1 re the 750 - it has a bit more grunt everywhere and is a cracking bike

i chose the 600 cos i like revving stuff and and it looked nicer

But but...it looks the same?!

However agree with the rest of the comments about the 750, btw you can definitely rev them same as a SS600, it's more down low in the rev range where there's a difference.

I have a 2007 ZX6-R p7F, and first off yes it has noticeably more balls, a lot more. Coincidently I rode a mates SV this morning to work to take on for trade in later today. And jumping off my bike yesterday onto the SV again I did notice the difference.

The engine, well forget this bollox about IL4 being gutless and no torque, while its true the SV pulls easier from low down the torque is the same, and notoverly noticeable. However you DO notice the BHP rush when it comes in , oh god do you ever, the kwak is by far a faster machine across all the revs I found. I found myself chasing revs on the SV looking for that rush of insane power that never came. The SV in short felt sluggish and shall I say slow in comparison to my Kwak. Make no mistake the Kwak is an all out race rep that begs to be thrashed and the harder and faster you ride it the better it responds. Now the down side to this is that It tends to release the inner hooligan in me, I have been know to hit 150 on NSL roads, and yes it is big and it is clever!! The SV produces no such feeling for me, I rode it sensibly. So if you get a Kwak be prepared to ride faster as it begs you to do so. The power delivery is actually smoother the FI on the Kwak is more refined than the SV, a lot less snatchy. Oh it revs to 16.5K red line. 86MPH first and I have seen 160 on the clock with more to go in the revs!!

Handling + suspension. The only place the SV out performs the kwak is at low speed manuvers. I put this down to the less practical stance on the Kwak, you are far far more forward over the front. The suspension is in a different galaxy, USD forks full adjustable everything help, the Kwak tips in eaiser and holds its line better in corners, easier to flick about once in a corner. It is that good you can even use the front brake while lent over and the suspension just soaks it up. Far better.

Brakes, well wow the difference is galaxies apart, the fronts on the SV felt about as strong as my rear, the front brakes on the Kwak are pin sharp and bite like a rotwiller on crack!! You can stop with 2 finger braking easy enough.

Looks, well personally I think the Gixers of old fell out the ugly tree and hit every twig, leaf and branch on the way down. The K8 ar e better, but the Kwak for me has the road presence the aggressive looks to go with its riding ability.

Over all I know it sounds like an assassination of the SV but I loved mine, I have just moved on. The Kwak for me is sooooooo much better in every department and bottom line it has made me a better rider no doubt. Oh and not being a Suzuki , It wont rust and fall apart at the first sniff of moisture in the air.

Remember once you go Kwak you never go back. GET THE 6R!!

Don't worry, pretty much all of that applies to any modern SS600, so you can want any of them
